Determining Ω from cluster correlation function

چکیده

It is shown how data on the cluster correlation function can be used in order to reconstruct the density of the pregalactic density field on the cluster mass scale. The method is applied to the data on the cluster correlation amplitude – richness dependence. The spectrum of the recovered density field has the same shape as the density field derived from data on the galaxy correlation function which is measured as function of linear scales. Matching the two amplitudes relates the mass to the comoving scale it contains and thereby leads to a direct determination of Ω. The resultant density parameter turns out to be Ω=0.25.

The APM cluster - galaxy cross - correlation function : Constraints on Ω and galaxy bias

We estimate the cluster-galaxy cross-correlation function (ξcg), from the APM galaxy and galaxy cluster surveys. We obtain estimates both in real space from the inversion of projected statistics and in redshift space using the galaxy and cluster redshift samples. The amplitude of ξcg is found to be almost independent of cluster richness. At large separations, r ∼> 5 h Mpc ( h = H0/100km s , whe...

The Angular Correlation Function of K ′ ∼ 19 . 5 Galaxies and the Detection of a Cluster at z = 0 . 775

On five K -band (2.1μm) Omega camera images, covering a total of 162.2 arcmin to a completeness limit K ′ ≃ 19.5, we investigate (i) the clustering environment of a sample of 5 radio galaxies at 0.7 ≤ z ≤ 0.8 and (ii) the galaxy angular correlation function, ω(θ). Applying two methods – counting galaxies within 1.5 arcmin of each radio galaxy, and using a cluster detection routine with a modell...

The Angular Correlation Function and Hierarchical Moments of ∼ 70000 Faint Galaxies to R = 23 . 5

We investigate the angular correlation function, ω(θ), and third and fourth-order hierarchical moments of a large sample of ∼ 70000 faint galaxies with an estimated completeness limit of R = 23.5. The data, obtained using the new INT Wide Field Camera, consists of 47 red-band CCD images on two widely separated fields of areas 1.01 deg and 0.74 deg. Galaxy clustering is detected with a total sig...

The Clustering of Iras Galaxies

We investigate the clustering of galaxies in the QDOT redshift survey of IRAS galaxies. We find that the two-point correlation function is well approximated by a powerlaw of slope −1.11±0.09, with clustering length 3.87±0.32h−1 Mpc* out to pair separations of ∼ 25h Mpc. On scales larger than ∼ 40h Mpc, the correlation function is consistent with zero. The rms fluctuation in the count of QDOT ga...

Measuring the Angular Correlation Function for Faint Galaxies in High Galactic Latitude Fields

A photometric survey of faint galaxies in three high Galactic latitude fields (each ∼ 49 arcmin2) with sub-arcsecond seeing is used to study the clustering properties of the faint galaxy population. Multi-color photometry of the galaxies has been obtained to magnitude limits of V ∼ 25, R ∼ 25 and I ∼ 24. Angular correlation analysis is applied to magnitude-limited and color-selected samples of ...
